Raytheon
Raytheon, a global leader in aerospace and defense systems, expanded its presence in Huntsville, Alabama to support a growing workforce and new program contracts. Located in Cummings Research Park West, the 144,000 SF office building provides workspace designed for collaboration, security, and long-term operational efficiency.
Flexible Workspaces to Support Aerospace and Defense Programs
The facility includes executive offices, open modular workstations, computer laboratories, and a large auditorium for company meetings and events. Additional amenities include a kitchen and dining facilities, as well as a shipping and receiving dock with associated storage to support operational needs.
Design Strategies Make the Building and Site Efficient
Designed as a LEED Silver certified facility, the building incorporates strategies for sustainable site development, water efficiency, energy performance, and the use of local, recycled, and low-emitting materials. Daylighting was an important design priority, helping improve the interior work environment while reducing energy consumption.
The building structure consists of a steel frame with a composite floor system. Exterior materials include brick veneer, insulating glass, and aluminum curtain wall with spandrel panels. Exterior sun-shading devices and interior light shelves help reduce heat gain and improve daylight distribution.
Site design strategies include stormwater retention, large parking islands with native landscaping, and open-grid paving within parking areas. These features reduce heat island effects, lower irrigation demands and minimize environmental impact.
