Piedmont Technical College / Self Regional Healthcare Center for Health Sciences, Space Programming Study + Design
The Self Regional Healthcare Center for Health Sciences at Piedmont Technical College renovation and expansion will meet South Carolina’s growing demand for healthcare professionals. Recognizing that the existing 30-year-old facility no longer supported modern training needs, the 24,000 SF renovation and a new two-story, 12,100 SF expansion will allow students to receive quality training in real-world conditions.
Planning for Workforce Readiness
The college partnered with our team to lead a comprehensive planning process. Through a utilization study, precedent study, and space programming and facility feasibility study, we gathered necessary data. Next, we provided options for how Piedmont Technical College could efficiently and confidently reach their goal. The result allows them to strengthen workforce preparation, support student success, and allow for long-term flexibility.
A Modern Simulation Center Bridges the Gap Between Education and Practice
Central to the design is a state-of-the-art simulation center with 12 specialized rooms equipped with high-fidelity mannequins and patient actors. Students gain hands-on experience in realistic clinical scenarios such as cardiopulmonary arrest, neonatal resuscitation, pediatric care, intensive care, and surgical procedures. This valuable experience helps develop the practical skills today’s healthcare employers demand.
A Design That Celebrates Health Science
The facility puts “Science on Display” with spaces in visible, accessible locations to inspire students and the community. By combining all health science programs into one building, the design fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and efficient use of resources.
Through thoughtful planning and modern design, the Center for Health Sciences prepares graduates to meet the needs of South Carolina healthcare facilities. This investment strengthens the pipeline of skilled professionals ready to serve patients and communities for decades to come.
