Prisma Health created a new model for a multi-specialty ambulatory care center (MACC) that enhances patient experience, optimizes operations, and supports long-term growth. The four-level, 135,729 SF facility in Columbia, SC consolidates primary and specialty care while reducing construction costs by more than $6.3M and eliminating over 14,000 SF of unnecessary space.
A Right-Sized, Flexible Model for Care Backed by Data and Research
We worked closely with Prisma Health leadership, user groups, and patients to ensure the facility aligned with both clinical needs and the system’s business plan. Our integrated approach involved combining our advisory services team, medical planners, researchers, and patient experience experts to accomplish the following:
Develop a detailed space program balancing primary care, specialty services, and adaptable rooms for emerging technologies.
Conduct surveys with patients, staff, and community members to inform planning.
Build a project-specific database with dashboards tracking provider counts, visit lengths, operating hours, and care model drivers.
Feed data directly into Proforma, tying design decisions to long-term financial sustainability.
