Midland Valley High School, Aiken County Public Schools

With enrollment topping 1,600 students, Midland Valley High School had outgrown its original 1978 facility and was relying on portable classrooms to manage the overflow. The district wanted to bring students under one roof and improve the school’s safety and learning environment.

High School Renovation Includes Classrooms, Modern Amenities, and Community Spaces

The strategic expansion supports Midland Valley High School’s long-term growth and prioritizes student outcomes and was completed in two phases. The first phase improved traffic circulation, parking, and site utilities to prepare for the new buildings. The second phase introduced new classroom and community spaces.

A new two-story wing includes a secure entrance, classrooms, administrative offices, and a special education suite. The upper floor features open collaboration areas, giving students flexible space to work independently or within groups.

An auxiliary gym with classrooms, and a multipurpose room supports school programs and community events. The expanded cafeteria offers more indoor seating and an outdoor dining patio doubles as instructional space.

Sustainable strategies like daylighting, efficient mechanical systems, and durable materials reduce long-term operating costs and improve indoor comfort.

Funded by a $90 million bond referendum in 2018, the renovation not only supports Midland Valley students today, but also sets the stage for continued success and stronger community connections in the future.
