Spartanburg Day School, Master Plan
Spartanburg Day School, an independent college preparatory school, partnered with McMillan Pazdan Smith to develop a long-range campus master plan. With a focus on flexibility and long-term land use, the plan supports academic excellence, campus growth, and the school’s mission and values.
Strategic Campus Planning Guided by Faculty and Stakeholders
The planning process began with a collaborative visioning session that included faculty and other key stakeholders. Using interactive survey tools that gathered real-time feedback, the design team facilitated discussions to identify priorities and explore how the campus could evolve. Regular meetings with the master planning committee helped evaluate site sketches, validate ideas, and align the campus plan with the needs of students, faculty, and the broader school community.
Phased Master Plan Enhances Academics, Arts, and Campus Life
The resulting master plan provides a flexible, phased roadmap for campus development and facilities improvements. It reflects Spartanburg Day School’s goal of maintaining a high-quality learning environment while preparing for future enrollment and programming needs.
Key elements of the plan include:
- A new proposed location and vision for a theatre
- Improved traffic circulation, parking, and pedestrian access
- Reorganization of preschool and lower school buildings
- Improved campus security
- Expanded academic, arts, and outdoor spaces to maximize student potential
As a living document, the independent school master plan offers strategic direction while remaining adaptable to Spartanburg Day School’s evolving needs.
