Augusta University Greenblatt Library
The renovation of Augusta University’s Greenblatt Library created a more functional, and comfortable environment for students. Improved study spaces, infrastructure systems, and accessibility, ensured the 45,134 SF library met the campus’s needs.
Greenblatt Library Improves Accessibility and Infrastructure
A welcoming and accessible entrance is crucial to the success of any library. The library’s new entryway not only improves accessibility but also enhances overall aesthetic, making it a more inviting place for students.
To support a comfortable and sustainable environment, the renovation addressed critical infrastructure needs. Air handling units, hydraulic plants, and controls were replaced with more efficient systems. Electrical improvements were made to provide additional power access throughout the Greenblatt Library, so students can easily charge devices and use electronic resources. Also, the lighting on the upper level was upgraded to energy-efficient LED fixtures, contributing to reduced energy consumption.
Modernized Study Spaces and Collaborative Areas
The Greenblatt Library renovation also focused on improving the interior. A comprehensive makeover of the second floor includes new interior finishes, furniture, and lighting. To maximize the benefits of natural light, furniture was strategically placed near windows and seating areas were zoned to provide quiet study spaces.
Recognizing the importance of collaboration, Augusta University’s library project introduced six new group study rooms, with space for future expansions. These rooms provide dedicated areas for quiet study, group discussions, and collaborative projects, encouraging a productive and interactive learning environment.
Preserving History and Improving Functionality
In addition to the modern upgrades, the renovation also included additional space for the historic collections. The unique and rare items needed to be preserved and accessible for research and scholarship. Greenblatt Library staff consolidated the layout for the Medical Journal and Health Sciences collections on another floor. This change made space near windows and reduced noise on the quiet floor, further supporting the library as a center for academic research.
The Greenblatt Library renovation represents a successful collaboration between Augusta University, faculty, McMillan Pazdan Smith, and the CM@R. Together, the library was transformed into a modern, welcoming, and functional space that continues to serve as a vital resource for learning and research.
