Spartanburg Police Headquarters
Following a successful sales tax referendum, Spartanburg County and the City of Spartanburg launched a coordinated effort to modernize and consolidate judicial and government services. Phase I of this multi-project initiative delivered several key facilities: a new judicial center, a parking garage, an emergency operations center (EOC), and the new Spartanburg Police Headquarters.
The 42,000-SF headquarters—built with a $15.6 million budget—brings all police operations under one roof, replacing and upgrading multiple aging facilities. The building includes forensic labs, secure evidence storage, a real-time crime center, office space, training rooms, a media center, and a gymnasium for officers.
To support modern policing needs, the building incorporates robust security features, including:
- Layered access control systems with full audit trails
- A comprehensive network of interior and exterior security cameras
- A concealed, ballistic-rated lobby designed to protect officers from potential threats
Creating Welcoming Public Spaces Without Compromising Security
Grounded in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles, the headquarters creates welcoming and clearly defined public areas. Sidewalk connections and dedicated public parking ensure easy access, while secured officer parking remains separate. A double-height lobby anchors the main entrance and includes a community outreach room designed to strengthen relationships between officers and residents.

Real-Time Crime Center Supports Spartanburg Police
The technologically advanced Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) gives officers unprecedented situational awareness. Live feeds from body-worn cameras, surveillance systems, and traffic cameras help improve officer safety, reduce crime, and speed response times. Integrated data—from crime databases to 911 call information and license plate readers—allows the department to identify trends, anticipate needs, and take proactive measures rather than reacting after the fact.
The new Spartanburg Police Headquarters reflects a forward-looking approach to public safety. Purpose-built for today’s operational demands and adaptable for tomorrow’s, it stands as a secure, efficient, and community-oriented home for the Spartanburg Police Department.
