Richland School District 2, Performing Arts Center

The R2 Performing Arts Center, located at the Richland Two Institute of Innovation (R2i2) Campus, is designed to elevate arts education and exhibition for the 27,000-student Richland Two district. Cultural programming is immensely popular here, with 81% of students participating in arts education. Funded by a 2018 bond referendum, this state-of-the-art facility serves students of all grade levels. It supports diverse performance types with flexible learning, rehearsal, and exhibition spaces.

R2 Performing Arts Center Nurtures Talent at Every Stage

The design features a 1,175-seat auditorium complete with a full-height stage, raised orchestra pit, and balcony level seating. Multi-use educational spaces include dressing rooms that double as dance studios and a versatile rehearsal space suitable for black box productions. The lobby showcases visual arts projects, highlighting student creativity.

The building’s striking white overhang and modern curtain wall reveal an interior that itself is a performance. This iconic structure symbolizes the district and community’s commitment to high-level performing arts education. Inside is a simple yet dynamic palette. Terrazzo flooring in high-traffic areas for durability and wood grain paneling to enhance acoustic performance. Future expansion includes opportunities for a purpose-built black box theater.

In addition to student productions, the R2 Performing Arts Center will host local and professional performances. This dynamic venue will enhance the arts and cultural opportunities for the entire community.
