The Springer Opera House in Columbus, Georgia (designated as the State Theatre of Georgia) launched the public phase of its $10.7 million “Forever Springer” capital campaign to fund the construction of an outdoor theater park, expand the theater’s education programs, and preserve and upgrade the 153-year-old historic building.

The Springer Opera House is a National Historic Landmark that spans 150,000 square feet across three floors. Its illustrious history includes hosting performances by Edwin Booth, Lily Langtry, Oscar Wilde, Will Rogers, Ethel Barrymore, Agnes de Mille, and John Philip Sousa. In addition to the repairs and upgrades inside the theatre, the Springer Opera House is transforming a surface parking lot into a lush downtown park. Tree-shaded canopies will enhance public gatherings as the 600+ outdoor seating capacity will hold diverse events from musicals and concerts to children’s camps, while serving as a gateway to Columbus’ Cultural Corridor.
This ambitious campaign will allow this cultural and architectural treasure to continue to be a destination in downtown Columbus. According to Springer CEO and executive producer Danielle Varner the project has garnered strong community support.
