Prisma Health, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit

Patients at Prisma Health Bone Marrow Transplant Unit have compromised immune systems. They must be kept safe from infection risks during their thirty to ninety-day hospital stay. Thanks to advanced design features, patients at Prisma Health Bone Marrow Transplant Unit can now engage in activities beyond their rooms.

Eliminating Infection Risks for Highly Sensitive Patients

Each patient room is a Protective Environment (PE) with sealed spaces, positive air pressure and strict filtration requirements. A HEPA filtration system and hard ceilings minimize harmful airborne particles. Bone Marrow Transplant Units are closed to traffic from other hospital areas. It has a dedicated med room, supply room, and clean/soiled utility rooms. All visitors must use the handwash station before entering.

Design Features Accommodate Extended Patient Stays

Infection control measures extend throughout the corridors and common areas. Patients can leave their rooms to visit a nourishment station, nurse station, and an activity area. The activity area includes a game table, exercise bike, and computer workstation. These areas provide a much-needed change of scenery and social interaction.

Unlike typical short-stay inpatient units, patient rooms have 42″ televisions, controllable lighting, and sleep sofas. These sofas convert to dining areas or twin beds, enhancing comfort during extended stays.

The unit combines advanced infection control with patient comfort. This innovative approach helps patients stay safe while enjoying more freedom and interaction during their hospital stay.
