Greenville County Family Court and Offices Upfit
Greenville County transformed a former corporate office complex into a modern family court facility, creating a secure, efficient judicial environment. The 110,000-square-foot adaptive reuse project converted two connected office buildings into a fully functioning courthouse housing eight family courtrooms, judges’ chambers, clerk offices, administrative departments, and probation and parole services.
Transforming Offices into a Secure Courthouse
Unlike a traditional office building, a courthouse requires carefully planned circulation, security, and operational separation. The renovation reconfigured the buildings to create separate circulation paths for judges, staff, the public, and individuals in custody, improving both safety and operational efficiency. The project also included significant upgrades to the building’s security systems, technology infrastructure, secured elevators, holding areas, sallyport, interview rooms, record storage, payment kiosks, and public waiting spaces.
Fast-Track Delivery with Minimal Family Court Disruption
The project followed an accelerated schedule to allow family court operations to relocate quickly and minimize disruption. Completed in less than two years from the notice to proceed — the renovation demonstrates how adaptive reuse can be an efficient and cost-effective solution.
