In a recent episode of AHA’s Advancing Health podcast, MPS healthcare architect Sara Robinson appeared with Jamie Feinour, Vice President of Operations at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center and president of Novant Health Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital.

Sara Robinson, Senior Associate, Architect, McMillan Pazdan Smith (Spartanburg).
Sara and Jamie shared with the American Hospital Association how a uniquely personal patient-journey coincided with Lean and Evidenced-based design principles to create Novant Health’s Agnes Binder Weisiger Breast Health Center in Charlotte, North Carolina (photo featured above).
Introducing a Spa-like Experience into the Patient Journey
To provide an inviting and stress-reducing atmosphere, the design team focused on each stage of the patient journey. Arrival, transition, staff interaction, and departure are all opportunities to impact the patient’s experience. In collaboration with patients, staff and stakeholders, each of these stages are designed with a calm, spa-inspired aesthetic rather than a traditional clinical feel.
Show Notes: How do you design a health care space that truly prioritizes patient experience? In this conversation, Sara Robinson, Senior Associate Healthcare Architect at McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture, and Jamie Feinour, Vice President of Operations at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center and president of Novant Health Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital, discuss how patient-centered design and innovative architecture come together to create spaces of healing for patients and providers, and how Sara’s personal cancer journey impacted the design for Novant Health’s Breast Center.
