Wild Dunes Resort & Convention Center

Located on Isle of Palms just outside Charleston, the Sweetgrass Inn at Wild Dunes Resort & Convention Center represents a transformative addition to this iconic Lowcountry destination. The six-story, 153-room boutique hotel was envisioned to elevate the resort experience with modern hospitality design while honoring coastal charm. The architecture embraces clean lines and light materials inspired by the vernacular of the South Carolina coast, using soft toned materials, board-and-batten detailing, and deep roof overhangs to create a breezy, porch-centric sensibility that invites relaxation and outdoor living.

At the heart of the project is a thoughtfully-planned guest arrival sequence that enhances circulation and separates visitor access from the residential gate system. A sweeping porte cochère and landscaped entry plaza create a welcoming first impression, leading guests into a lobby and lounge space that doubles as a social hub. Just beyond, a zero-entry pool, hot tub, and kids’ splash pad activate the outdoor zone, complemented by casual dining at The Laughing Gull poolside bar.

The Sweetgrass Inn also expands the resort’s appeal as a conference and event destination with over 30,000 SF of dedicated meeting space. Adjacent to the hotel, a 10,000-square-foot spa and wellness facility features 14 treatment rooms and a tranquil outdoor garden complete with plunge pools.

McMillan Pazdan Smith worked closely with development partners and interior designers to align this project with Wild Dunes’ long-range master plan, seamlessly integrating it into the existing fabric of the Boardwalk Inn and Village.
