Wheeless Road Elementary School, Richmond County School System

Our K-12 design team was challenged to design a technologically advanced school for the replacement of Wheeless Road Elementary School in Augusta, GA. This new design features several creative makerspaces geared toward inspired, hands-on teaching at different age levels. One of these is a two-story, glass walled space that adjoins a balcony system and monumental stair. From this raised level, students and teachers may observe or partake in the activities of the room. The presence of garage-door roll up walls allow art rooms to open to exterior teaching labs. A crucial factor in the planning and design, all aspects of the building design take student and staff security into consideration.
