University of North Carolina Charlotte, Fretwell Café

The University of North Carolina-Charlotte’s Fretwell Café was previously dimly lit, worn, and offered limited food options due to space constraints. In response, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences decided to expand the café. By adding 800-square-feet to the existing space, an area for students and staff was created.

The Fretwell Café expansion not only increased the café’s square footage but also enhanced its food service capabilities. Furthermore, new meeting and lounge areas were incorporated into the design. These versatile spaces are accessible even outside of regular serving hours, fostering collaboration among students. As a result, the revamped café now provides students with an inviting environment to gather, study, or relax during extended hours, enriching the campus community.
