The Cooper School (K-8)
The Cooper School, a private K–8 school in Charleston, required extensive site planning for an addition to its existing building. Working with a limited budget and in collaboration with faculty and students, our design focused on improving the school’s street presence and unifying the campus layout.
Sustainable, Flexible, and Locally Inspired Design
The addition creates a new “front door” to the building and provides well-defined pedestrian and vehicular circulation paths.
The school’s project-based learning program is supported by principles of program flexibility and sustainability. Local and natural materials, along with energy-efficient methods are incorporated into the design so it is responsible and visually compelling. The functional and distinctive addition supports The Cooper School’s identity and its mission of progressive education while maximizing resources.
