TARCOG Headquarters
TARCOG Headquarters brings approximately 130 employees together in a carefully planned workplace in Huntsville, Alabama. The Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments serves five counties through aging and disability services, community planning, economic development, and other programs. Its new headquarters needed to support departments with widely different operations while providing a welcoming environment for the public.
Accommodating Diverse Departments Within a Compact Footprint
The range of services TARCOG provides made workplace planning especially complex. Each department required a different balance of privacy, public interaction, collaboration, and focused work — all within a two-story, 26,000 SF building.
The design concentrates private offices in the more solid brick volume and places open work areas beneath higher ceilings with abundant natural light. Acoustical treatments support employees who spend much of the day on the phone, while shared meeting, training and support spaces reduce duplication and make efficient use of the compact footprint.
Public-facing spaces received equal attention. A clear, accessible lobby helps older adults and other visitors navigate arrival and check-in. A large training room, prefunction area, and event-support spaces accommodate the community programs TARCOG hosts.
Work lounges, break spaces, and calming wellness rooms on both floors support employees throughout the day. On the first floor, the break area opens directly to a patio / courtyard, providing another place to gather, recharge or work outside.
