Spartanburg Day School, Athletic Complex

Spartanburg Day School, an independent 2K–12 college preparatory school, emphasizes a co-curricular experience that includes physical education and competitive athletics. To strengthen its commitment to student wellness, sports, and community engagement, the school renovated and expanded its athletic facilities.

Upgraded Athletic Facilities Support Students and the Community

The planning process identified the need to upgrade existing gym support areas and add 6,100 SF of new space. Key program elements include a new weight room, multi-purpose room, visiting team locker rooms, and an athletic director’s office. A new gymnasium seats up to 600 and features a competition basketball court, practice courts, and retractable, motorized basketball goals.

Designed to serve both the school and the broader community, the facility also offers a performance venue for campus events and space for summer programs and athletic camps.

Sustainable Design That Supports Long-Term Growth

The Spartanburg Day School athletic complex and new upper school projects achieved LEED Certification through the use of high-performance materials and energy efficient strategies. A reflective roof, high-performance glazing, and shading devices minimize heat gain. Energy-efficient building systems and water-conserving landscaping further support Spartanburg Day School’s commitment to sustainability and long-term operational efficiency.
