Rock Hill Sports & Event Center

The City of Rock Hill developed the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center to expand recreation opportunities for residents, attract regional and national competitions, and support continued investment in the city’s urban core. The 151,000 SF facility accommodates collegiate, high school and community athletics as well as conferences, conventions and special events.

Flexible Spaces for Competition and Community Use

The center features eight high-school-size basketball courts that convert into 16 volleyball courts. A dedicated championship arena includes an NCAA-size basketball court and seating for 1,200 spectators. The volleyball courts provide 41 feet of clear height above the playing surface, meeting NCAA recommendations and allowing the facility to host higher-level competitions.

Additional spaces include an indoor walking track, locker rooms, concessions, meeting areas and an 8,000-square-foot multipurpose room. This flexibility allows the building to support local programs during the week and transition efficiently for large tournaments and events.

An Anchor for Urban Redevelopment

The Sports & Event Center anchors University Center at Knowledge Park, a 23-acre redevelopment of the former Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Company site known locally as The Bleachery. Located between Winthrop University and Old Town Rock Hill, the center helped establish a destination that brings residents, athletes and visitors into the city’s growing mixed-use district.

Red brick masonry and metal panels connect the exterior to the surrounding historic textile mill architecture. The hardwood courts, stained concrete, durable rubber flooring and large-scale sports graphics create an energetic interior suited to daily recreation and major events.

The Rock Hill Sports & Event Center has helped strengthen the city’s established sports-tourism program while providing a flexible civic resource for the community.
