Porter-Gaud School, Master Plan
Porter-Gaud, an independent school in Charleston, SC, is experiencing significant campus growth. The school needed a strategic plan to accommodate a growing student body. By optimizing space usage and enhancing campus functionality, the school was able to address current needs and plan for future growth.
Strategic Planning for Independent School Growth
The school’s planning process began with input from faculty and administration through a visioning process to identify key space requirements. A combination of programming studies, space assessments, zoning research, and cost forecasting helped shape the comprehensive strategy.
This work included a facilities condition assessment and a phased roadmap with short-term (1-5 years) and long-term (5-20 years) objectives.
The design of a new academic building, performing arts center, gymnasium, and integration of sustainable practices that reflect the values of Porter-Gaud School followed. The plan also included improvements to parking, pedestrian accessibility, and campus security. These elements were designed to support and align with the school’s fundraising efforts, reinforcing continued growth and campus improvements. Regular stakeholder meetings ensured consistent feedback and further alignment with the school’s vision.
