Pocotaligo River Health + Rehab, Southern Senior Living
Pocotaligo River Health + Rehab is an 88-bed skilled nursing facility, designed to replace an outdated 64-bed center. Tasked with creating a modern, resident-centered environment while maintaining operational efficiency, our architecture team implemented the Household model — a proven approach that enhances both resident well-being and staff workflows.
Pocotaligo Balances Home-Like Comfort with Operational Efficiency
Unlike traditional institutional nursing homes, this design creates a homelike environment by organizing the facility into four self-contained households. Each 22-bed household features private living and dining spaces. Direct access to outdoor areas and discreetly integrated nursing stations balance comfort with accessibility. By concealing clinical elements, residents experience greater independence, dignity, and social engagement, key principles in today’s senior living trends.
Beyond residential spaces, the Pocotaligo River Health + Rehab includes a therapy suite, large community room, chapel, and social areas, encouraging interaction and connection. Designed through a collaborative design-build process with Mashburn Construction, this facility elevates the senior living experience while supporting staff efficiency.
