Novant Health, Forsyth Medical Center – Women’s Center
When a competing hospital announced the launch of a new obstetric program with contemporary service offerings, Novant Health realized the need to differentiate Forsyth Medical Center’s obstetric and infant programs in the greater Winston-Salem market.
Because patient experience and facility design play an important role in decisions about where to give birth, Novant concluded that upgrading their 88,825-SF Women’s Center with high-end aesthetics and amenities would appeal to local families.
A first-floor lobby and entrance features upgraded finishes and furnishings to create a calming, hospitality-like environment. And the new birth tracking board enables waiting family members to monitor delivery status.
The existing 12 Labor and Delivery Rooms (LDR) are converted to nine rooms, with optional water birthing tubs to address modern market demand. The seven-phase renovation only took one pod offline at a time so the floor could remain operational, continuing to serve patients with construction underway. An additional 12 LDR rooms also have upgraded and elevated finishes, furnishings, and lighting. The OB Triage Suite renovation increases space and capacity to replace undersized exam rooms.
Postpartum rooms are relocated to the sixth and seventh floors and renovated, consolidating all of the hospital’s women’s and children’s services into the North Tower.
