Middle Tyger Education Center
To address the childcare desert in Spartanburg and surrounding areas, Middle Tyger Community Center, Spartanburg School District 5, and industry leaders created the new Middle Tyger Education Center. Through a unique public/private partnership, this project brings together educators, community organizations, and local industries to create a nurturing environment for children. This effort supports essential workers and expands access to care by more than 300% to the community.
A Catalyst for Change, Providing Family + Workforce Support
Middle Tyger Education Center is a 44,500-SF child development facility that expands education and care while supporting children (from infant to 4K) and working families. The design prioritizes the physical, emotional, and social well-being of the students and staff by offering multi-generational counseling and creating secure learning spaces that meet strict DSS requirements.
Designed for Access and Future Expansion
Located at the intersection of two, well-trafficked streets, the highly visible front entrance welcomes community to this new resource. Inside the two-story lobby, friendly colors and organic shapes are awash with natural light. An age-appropriate interior palate creates a soothing and inspiring learning environment throughout the classrooms, indoor and outdoor play areas, corridors, and multipurpose room. The first floor includes 33,000 SF allocated to early childhood spaces, and the partial second floor contains 11,500 SF of offices and training rooms. Campus planning also considers future expansion space.
