McCracken Middle School, Spartanburg School District 7

Spartanburg School District 7 transformed an existing high school into a middle school that supports the academic, social, and developmental needs of grades 6–8. The renovation of McCracken Middle School provided a long-term solution to overcrowding. It allowed the district to relocate middle school students from a space originally intended for elementary grades.

This 118,000 SF renovation creates an environment that aligns with how middle schoolers learn and interact. Eight new collaboration spaces were added throughout the building, offering flexible zones for breakout instruction, group work, and quiet reflection. These areas support the development of independent learning skills while encouraging student connection and teamwork.

McCracken Middle School’s building-wide improvements also support student safety, comfort, and energy efficiency. Upgrades include a new fire protection system, HVAC replacement, and ADA improvements. New windows, doors, ceilings, and refreshed interior finishes breathe new life into the space—creating a welcoming and modern atmosphere for students and educators.
