Martin Luther King Jr. Branch, Fulton County Library System

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch Library in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward is located just a block from Dr. King’s birthplace. The aging facility no longer met the community’s needs and needed improvements. To better serve this historic neighborhood, the Fulton County Library System modernized the 4,224 SF library and enhanced its infrastructure and services.

Honoring History While Advancing Library Services

The renovated library features a large mural of Martin Luther King, Jr., inspired by the work of Emory Douglas. Aerial photographs of the Old Fourth Ward from Dr. King’s era provide a historical context and honor to his legacy.

The renovation introduces dedicated areas for children, teens, and adults, two private study rooms and staff spaces. Modern technology, including self-checkout devices, Wi-Fi networking, and public computers, was integrated throughout the library. Improved lighting and fresh paint have transformed the previously dark interior into a welcoming environment.
