Karesh at Beechwood

Karesh at Beechwood replaces a 1960s nursing home with a modern 132-bed facility designed to support long-term care, rehabilitation, and memory support. The project’s biggest challenge was balancing cost and staffing ratios while creating a home-like, non-institutional environment. The solution was achieved through a household-centered design.

Six Households, One Community

Instead of long corridors and centralized nurse stations, the design organizes the community into six autonomous households, each accommodating 22 residents. Within these smaller “neighborhoods,” residents enjoy familiar residential elements such as:

  • Welcoming front porches
  • Cozy living rooms
  • Open kitchens and dining spaces
  • Private outdoor areas

Sleeping rooms are arranged to provide privacy while allowing easy access to communal areas, reinforcing both independence and connection.

Amenities that Support Well-Being

Karesh at Beechwood includes a full-service hair salon, a dedicated physical therapy room, and multiple landscaped courtyards. These amenities give residents opportunities for self-care, rehabilitation, and fresh air in a safe, inviting environment.

Staff prepares meals in the central kitchen but serves meals in each household’s dining room or country kitchen. These areas encourage engagement, choice, and a true sense of home.

A Campus Designed for Growth

Karesh at Beechwood marks the first phase of a larger master plan that prioritizes long-term growth and campus connectivity. The master plan prioritizes the site’s natural features and history, utilizing the topography to minimize extensive site work, and encouraging pedestrian circulation throughout the development. Future phases will strengthen connections between buildings, enhance walkability, and expand services to create a vibrant, integrated senior living campus.
