In 2017, Dominion Group commissioned McMillan Pazdan Smith to design an independent living apartment building in their Senior Care Clemson community in the Patrick Square development. Patrick Square includes a mixture of shops, restaurants, businesses, private homes, and nature preserves. The community also offers full spectrum care for their residents, including assisted living, memory care, and respite care, and was seeking to attract independent older adults. For many of these adults, Patrick Square also provides easy access to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute which is run by Clemson University and helps adults over 50 continue the joy of learning and exploration through or a variety of courses is located within the Patrick Square development.

The new apartment building is designed to blend well with the existing aesthetics of the development. Our design team worked to create a new, 4-story independent living apartment building on a small urban site that adhered to the strict guidelines of Patrick Square. The exterior features a mix of white horizontal and vertical HardiePlank siding, which is contrasted with the vibrant red brick foundation. The design is punctuated with a gable roof supported by large brackets. The interiors were created by Banko Designs.

The new 70-unit building offers a mix of studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom apartments with luxury amenities of regular housekeeping and maintenance, dining, private dining, on-site physician visits, daily activities, and wellness classes. One of the biggest features of Patrick Square is the outdoor community that is created through interaction with dedicated green spaces and front porch living. Our team worked with Dominion Senior Living to incorporate a sprawling front porch into the design as well as a private courtyard with landscaped pathways and a fountain.

The new independent living apartment building opened in Spring 2020.
