Converse University, Cudd Hall

Converse College invested $4.8 million to revitalize Cudd Hall, a historic residence hall known for its Southern charm. The renovation preserved the character of the three-story building while creating a safer, more accessible living and learning environment for students.

The project renovated 46 residential rooms and two community advisor rooms. It also expanded ADA-accessible rooms and improved entry access. Updated community spaces include a kitchen, laundry facilities, study rooms, and open gathering areas.

The renovation rebuilt the residence hall’s distinctive three-level porch overlooking the inner quad. An open central staircase connects the building’s shared spaces with the porches, strengthening the relationship between indoor and outdoor student life. A self-service coffee market on the ground floor welcomes residents and the broader campus community. On the second floor is a well-equipped kitchen and a dedicated third-floor study room provides additional places to gather, study, and connect.
