CaroMont Regional Medical Center, Belmont Campus
With the rapid growth of the eastern part of Gaston County, CaroMont health recognized the need for a greenfield hospital in Belmont, North Carolina, off interstate 85. For several years, occupancy at the existing 435-bed CaroMont Health Belmont Campus in Gastonia exceeded the target rate of 75% capacity. With nearly 250,000 patient encounters a year, state regulators indicated the facility needed at least 33 additional hospital beds. Another 64 would be required by 2020.
CaroMont Health Meets Growing Healthcare Needs with Expansion and Partnership
CaroMont Health commissioned McMillan Pazdan Smith to design the greenfield 66-bed, 4-story hospital building to accommodate the growing patient population. The four-story hospital includes two floors of inpatient bed units above two floors of diagnostic and treatment departments. The inpatient floors provide space for efficient staff operations with natural light. A large plaza with outdoor seating gives staff and family ran area for respite.
Through a partnership with Belmont Abbey College, CaroMont Health entered a long-term agreement to lease the land. They will also support the college’s future plans for health science programs through clinical rotation opportunities at the new hospital. Because of its location, the aesthetic of the new hospital building strikes a balance between the CaroMont brand and the Belmont Abbey campus. In addition to the 256,360 SF hospital, our campus scope includes a parking garage, and a separate 4-story, 100,000 SF Medical Office Building with an Ambulatory Surgery Center on the ground floor.
