Bon Secours St. Francis, Hawkins Center, Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Care
Bon Secours St. Francis Health System partnered with Teen Cancer America and First Citizens Bank to launch a new adolescent and young adult oncology unit. Teen Cancer America, founded by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend of The Who, collaborates with hospitals to create environments that foster community and social interaction among teenage patients.
Hawkins Center Creates a Comfortable and Engaging Space for Teen Patients
Hawkins Center features soft furnishings, hangout areas, game rooms, laptops, and musical instruments. Teens can feel like teens during their hospital stay. This dedicated unit is designed to improve survival rates, which are lower for teens compared to children or adults. It provides a level of comfort not typically found in pediatric cancer programs.
