Bon Secours Mercy Health / St. Francis Eastside, Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health

One of only four certified breast centers in SC, the Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health is the busiest in Greenville, SC — providing nearly 20,000 screening and diagnostic procedures each year. With need greater than current capacity, McMillan Pazdan Smith designed an entirely new 6,800 SF Center for Breast Health in the Eastside MOB.

A collaborative approach involving physicians, nurses, techs, other healthcare professionals and a local women’s community group resulted in a design that creates a higher level of privacy, essential in an environment that needs to be as stress-free as possible. There is private registration with two separate waiting areas for screening and diagnostics that include individual dressing rooms, nourishment center, music, art and comfortable seating.

To create the spa-like environment requested by the client, interior design elements include a neutral palette with colorful way finding. Both classic and contemporary lighting concepts are incorporated, and environmental-scale, digital photography of plants and flowers are a nod to the high-quality digital imaging of this particular clinical process.

The Center’s technology includes three mammography units, three ultrasound units, one bone densitometry unit and one stereotactic unit.
