Atrium Health – Wake Forest Baptist, Westgate Pediatrics Renovation
Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist needed to expand its pediatric practice within an existing office building in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The renovation transformed a traditional office suite into an efficient, welcoming clinic designed around the needs of pediatric patients, families, and care teams.
A Collaborative Design Process Improves Patient Flow and Privacy
The design team began by studying the existing practice and its clinical workflow. Throughout the process, regular communication with the client helped establish shared goals and informed a layout that supports current operations while providing greater flexibility for the future.
The 8,475-square-foot Westgate clinic includes 18 exam rooms organized around a centralized nurses’ station. This arrangement gives staff clear visibility of patient areas, supports faster response times, and improves overall efficiency. A separate entrance also provides greater privacy for patients receiving behavioral or medically sensitive care. A bright, color palette of blues and greens, built from Atrium Health’s brand standards, further defined each space with a fun, kid-friendly focus.
An Efficient Renovation with Minimal Disruption
Careful phasing allowed the practice to maintain operations during construction. Completed within four months, the renovation meets Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist design standards while creating a more functional and patient-centered pediatric care environment.
