McMillan Pazdan Smith was part of the design team for Greenville, SC’s first Whole Foods Market. We provided design services that included site adaptation, retail shop design, tenant upfit services, and construction administration for both the 47,000 SF anchor grocery store and the adjacent retail parcels. Working closely with the client’s corporate architect and the developer, the design team addressed all service, signage, and daylighting requirements while offering creative solutions for increased visibility to both the indoor and outdoor dining options.
Capturing a key piece of local history, the Whole Foods’ Greenville store is remarkable for its sustainable reuse of more than 50,000 bricks preserved from former textile mills in the surrounding communities, many dating back to the 1890s. Long known for their Green Mission initiatives, the grocer actively supports conservation and historic preservation as part of their facilities program.
