In response to shifting healthcare needs, White Oak Manor commissioned McMillan Pazdan Smith to design extensive 10,000 SF renovations, and add a brand new 14,000 SF short term rehabilitation wing to the existing skilled nursing facility in Shelby, NC.
The new wing has a dedicated entrance with a connecting corridor and front porch. This addition houses 24 private rooms complete with private bathrooms and a full-service therapy and rehab suite along with various living, dining and activity areas. Renovations include a sloped roof above the front portion of the existing facility to match the new addition and the residential character of the surrounding historic neighborhood. Existing four-bed wards were converted to semi-private rooms with full bathrooms, and several semi-private rooms were converted to private rooms with upgraded bathrooms. Additionally, the existing day rooms and nursing stations have been opened up to the corridor and renovated to match the new design — making a smooth transition from new to old while also keeping renovation costs lower.
“I appreciate the fact that you are walking alongside of us through this endeavor. Little changes like the shower wall layout, HVAC stands, and a host of other details could be disastrous if someone wasn’t keeping one eye on our compliance requirements, and the other on functionality. I appreciate your flexibility…. and your willingness to hear us through. Flexibility is a virtue that is too often in short supply so thanks for allowing us some input as we work together.”
