The Bon Secours St. Francis Health System turned to McMillan Pazdan Smith to design the new Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health located in Greenville, SC. One of only four certified breast centers in the state, and the busiest in Greenville, the new 7,000SF facility performs nearly 20,000 procedures each year.
Understanding the survivability linked with early detection and the importance of preventative care, the client asked McMillan Pazdan Smith to create an uplifting, spa-like environment to facilitate more accessible screening and diagnostic programs for their patients.
Led by the firm’s Healthcare Studio, a collaborative planning approach involving physicians, nurses, technicians and local women’s community groups culminated in a new space with a neutral color palette, bright accents, intuitive way-finding, subtle lighting and the adornment of environmental photography. All of this helped to provide a sense of nature and references the high quality digital imaging of this particular clinical process. The Center’s state of the art technology includes mammography, ultrasound guided biopsy, densitometry and stereotactic FNA.
