Greenville Health System (GHS) commissioned McMillan Pazdan Smith to design the first Program of All Inclusive Care of the Elderly (PACE) adult day care center in the Upstate of South Carolina. Based on PACE’s project mission to meet the growing chronic care needs of seniors who would otherwise require nursing home care, the design team was tasked with helping GHS create a facility that would prolong a participant’s ability to live safely within the community, therefore improving quality of life.
Completed in November, 2016, the 20,000 SF, $5M new construction facility supports the delivery of all medical and supportive services needed to create a continuum of care for each participant. Spaces include a full administrative suite, catering kitchen, and a clinic with on-site physicians. A physical therapy suite offers participants therapy in daily living activities including a kitchen and bathroom to increase proficiency and safety in the home. A medication dispensary ensures enrollees have all daily medication required both at the center and at home.
