McMillan Pazdan Smith, teamed with Perkins & Will, is proud to serve Clemson University, in partnership with MUSC Health, for a landmark new health care facility on Clemson’s main campus. This partnership between the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Health and Clemson University aims to redefine student wellness, care delivery, and human performance research.
“Today is a very exciting day for Clemson University and for the state of South Carolina, as two of our state’s major research institutions, along with industry partners, join together in providing a state-of-the-art facility to better support our community’s health and well-being,” said Clemson University Interim President Bob Jones in the universities official release.
The new comprehensive health center will significantly expand access to care for Clemson students and employees, bringing together clinical services, advanced diagnostic imaging, and human performance laboratories under one roof. By combining MUSC Health’s world‑class medical expertise with Clemson’s deep commitment to student well‑being and innovation, the project will strengthen the university’s health infrastructure for decades to come.

A New Era of Collaborative Health Care on Campus
The new facility is designed to serve as a comprehensive resource for the Clemson community, enhancing health services while advancing research and performance science. Once complete, the 90,000-square-foot center will deliver:
- Expanded clinical care for students and employees, including a pharmacy, lab, radiology, allergy / immunization clinic, counseling / psychological services and telehealth
- Advanced imaging services that improve diagnostic access
- A sports medicine and ambulatory surgery center operated by Prisma Health Blue Ridge Orthopedics
- Human performance research labs and an employee occupational health clinic
- Flexible, modern spaces to support interdisciplinary collaboration with enhanced operational efficiency
This project reflects a shared mission between Clemson University and MUSC Health: to increase access to quality healthcare, strengthen health research partnerships, and create an integrated model that supports total well‑being.
Designing for Impact
The design team will deliver a facility that meets the evolving health needs of the campus community while fostering a warm, accessible, and student‑centered environment. Areas of focus include:

- Creating integrated care spaces that support both treatment and advanced research
- Enhancing patient experience within a facility that positions Clemson University and MUSC at the forefront of innovative health care and well-being services
