City of Huntsville Transit Transfer Station Wins Multiple Design Awards

Huntsville architecture firm Fuqua & Partners had a lot to celebrate in July. In addition to joining McMillan Pazdan Smith, their design of the City of Huntsville Transit Transfer Station was honored with the Medium Merit & Top Block Award by AIA North Alabama. The team was presented with the awards at the 2025 AIA North Alabama Design Awards Gala at The Royal event venue at Stovehouse in Huntsville, Alabama on July 24th.

This same project took home an Award of Excellence from the Associated Builders and Contractors of North Alabama’s Annual Excellence in Construction Awards Celebration and a Merit Award from AIA Alabama in 2024.

The Huntsville Transit Transfer Station design allows patrons rapid access through the ADA-accessible lobby to the bus platform. The building’s grand tower also serves as a striking visual landmark, symbolizing the city of Huntsville’s commitment to modern transit solutions.

Sustainability was also a key feature. A rain garden serves as an innovative natural system for water management, reducing runoff, promoting groundwater recharge, and decreasing the station’s ecological footprint.

This important civic structure enhances the City of Huntsville’s public transportation system, by reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions, while providing equitable access to public transportation. The project was made possible in part by a $12.5 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration.

The 50,364 Square Foot building was completed in July of 2024. Consolidated Construction Company was the general contractor.
