The Charleston County School District partnered with McMillan Pazdan Smith for over eight years to develop a unique high school design that supports a career and technology curriculum needed by the surrounding business and economic community. In a region of high economic and manufacturing growth with specialized technology and healthcare markets, the district wanted a facility that could develop local, specialized talent to support the area’s economic growth and offer promising opportunities for its graduates.
McMillan Pazdan Smith designed a flexible school that easily adapted to an evolving pedagogy and organized the layout around a “school within a school” concept. Supporting collaborative learning, the design pairs the media center with surrounding computer labs to emphasize technology and support the neighboring community.
Inside the school is a vibrant health clinic that provides services to the community while providing students with real world exposure and lessons in healthcare education.
McMillan Pazdan Smith merged the firm’s extensive educational design and vast healthcare design experience to create a truly unique educational environment.
