Pickens County High School Prototypes

As part of an aggressive building and construction plan aimed at targeting outdated facilities around the County, the School District of Pickens County chose McMillan Pazdan Smith to create a functional floor plan tied to programmatic needs that could be adapted in size to all of the high schools in the district. After benchmarking schools nationally, including visits to Texas and the Great Lakes, visioning sessions were held to include input from the community and district stakeholders.

Special care was given to address technology utilization, a design-to-program correlation based on South Carolina”s new EEDA curriculum requirements and a community identity. Environmental stewardship initiatives were also included. The resulting facilities vary in size according to core needs and anticipated growth projections and fall between 200,000 and 300,000 SF. All designs include athletic facilities, but each school also includes a unique academic focus.
