In 2016, Baxter Enterprises and Hi-Tech Mold and Engineering, Inc of Rochester Hills, Michigan, began expanding their manufacturing, distribution, and services into Oconee County, South Carolina. The new Baxter Enterprises facility will produce injection-molded parts for the automotive industry at the site. Hi-Tech Mold, a separate company, will share space in the same building, where they will make, repair, and maintain the molding machines and dyes for Baxter as well as other companies across the upstate of SC, GA, and NC. The project is a Design/Build project delivery, and the Owner, General Contractor, and major subcontractors collaborated closely throughout the design process.
With more than 25 different types of molding machines with forces ranging from 85 to 3500 tons, the company will benefit from 2 bridge cranes above the molding bays with a 50 Ton and 25 Ton hoist on each, as well as a 50 Ton/25Ton combination bridge crane in the HiTech shop area.
The building is a steel frame with insulated metal wall panels. At 80,000 SF, the first phase includes a 7,900 SF office and the HiTech shop area which is 17,500 SF of mold repair, CNC machines, laser welding, and testing equipment. The total volume of the manufacturing facility is expandable up to 200,000 SF, and the office areas are expandable up to 16,000 SF. Construction Cost is $5.7 million including Site Improvements. Construction began in May of 2016 and is scheduled to be complete in early December of 2016.
