Now considered an excellent student recruitment tool and a treasured rite of passage for upperclassmen, the Wofford College Village Housing Complex encourages social interaction and a sense of community through effective building placement and neighborhood amenities. The “new urban” village emulates a quaint Southern neighborhood through meandering sidewalks and shady trees, a significant front lawn, informal recreational and event areas, and wide front porches with rockers.
The community is building friendships and lifelong memories for students and returning alumnae, from a group study on the porch on a sunny afternoon, to a dinner party with classmates and professors, to a football weekend gathering on the great lawn. The transitional apartment-style complex minimizes cost through floorplan standardization efficiencies and is phased as financial support and housing demands develop.
The project has received significant regional and national recognition for creative planning and design, including publication in University Business magazine and the distinguished Builder’s Choice Design and Planning Award.
